SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 12 de enero de 2018 - El Coro de Chicas de San Francisco (SFGC), dirigido por la Directora Musical y Directora Principal Valérie Sainte-Agathe, hará su debut en el Carnegie Hall junto con el Philip Glass Ensemble el viernes 16 de febrero a las 8:00 p.m. con una rara interpretación de la innovadora obra de 1970 del compositor, Música con partes cambiantes. El programa se repetirá en San Francisco el martes 20 de febrero a las 7:30 p.m. en el Davies Symphony Hall bajo los auspicios de San Francisco Performances.

Música con partes cambiantes fue compuesta originalmente para el Philip Glass Ensemble. Esta nueva actuación, que incluirá SFGC y una sección de metales del Conservatorio de Música de San Francisco, fue arreglada por el Director Musical del Philip Glass Ensemble Michael Riesman, la Directora Artística del SFGC Lisa Bielawa y el compositor Philip Glass. Durante los últimos 26 años, Bielawa ha sido vocalista y teclista del Philip Glass Ensemble y aparecerá como teclista en estas actuaciones junto al coro en esta nueva versión arreglada. A través de recientes colaboraciones con SFGC, Philip Glass se ha familiarizado con el coro y señala que "será un placer trabajar con un grupo de jóvenes tan talentoso y maravillosamente entrenado".

Estas actuaciones marcarán la segunda ocasión en esta temporada en que SFGC ha interpretado la música de Philip Glass como parte de las actividades nacionales para la celebración del 80º cumpleaños del compositor. En octubre de 2017, los miembros del Philip Glass Ensemble Michael Riesman y Andrew Sterman se unieron a SFGC para un concierto de apertura de temporada que fue elogiado por el Bay Area Reporter como "ambiciosamente planeado y perfectamente ejecutado". Comentando específicamente sobre esta colaboración única, el Bay Area Reporter continuó diciendo "Viajar en tan estimada compañía es un resultado bien merecido de la visión perdurable de la organización".

El debut de SFGC en el Carnegie Hall coincide con el lanzamiento el 16 de febrero de su próximo álbum, Final Answer, en Orange Mountain Music. Durante su estancia en Nueva York, SFGC ofrecerá un concierto de lanzamiento en Le Poisson Rouge el 13 de febrero con obras seleccionadas del álbum.

This performance at Carnegie Hall marks the third time in as many years that SFGC has been presented on the East Coast. In June 2016, SFGC performed in concert with the Brooklyn-based orchestral collective, The Knights, for the NY PHIL BIENNIAL festival. And in April 2017, SFGC travelled to Washington, D.C. at the invitation of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to perform, again with The Knights, on the Center’s acclaimed SHIFT Festival of American Orchestras.

About the San Francisco Girls Chorus
Now in its 39th year, the San Francisco Girls Chorus’s founding Artistic Director, Elizabeth Appling, prepared the first-ever chorus of girls to perform with the San Francisco Opera, an opportunity previously reserved only for boys. Founded with a vision to become an international-caliber chorus for young women, SFGC has grown into a renowned, industry-leading performing arts and music education organization. Today, under the leadership of Artistic Director, Lisa Bielawa, and Music Director, Valerie Sainte-Agathe, SFGC serves nearly 300 choristers ages 5-18 from 45 cities and all 9 Bay Area counties each year. Served by a music faculty of 21 teaching artists and 7 administrators, the organization operates a professional-level performance, recording and touring ensemble; the four-level Chorus School training program; and a Preparatory Chorus.

The Chorus has toured to more than a dozen countries and performed at major national and international venues including the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama, New York’s Lincoln Center, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, the World Choral Symposium in Kyoto, Japan, the World Vision Children’s Choir Festival in Korea, and the Gateway to Music Festival in China.
